The Historical Heritage Complex

The main floor of the C.A.M.I. building houses a mini-museum situated at 787 Main Road, Old Harry, Magdalen Islands, Quebec, Canada. The museum contains a growing collection of old photographs and various donated and loaned artifacts that depict the old style of life of our ancestors.

There are old maps, family trees, and much documented information that show our history. There is also small section dedicated to Brion Island, which was once an important part of the Grosse Ile's fishing community. This collection of publications, photographs and artifacts commemorates the families that inhabited the island from the early part of the 19th century until 1972. Situated about 16-km north-northeast of Grosse- Ile, Brion Island is now an ecological reserve, and is only accessible by boat, and with a special permission from the government which can be obtained through C.A.M.I.

The Veterans' Museum houses a collection of veterans' memorabilia from all over the Magdalens and serves as a reminder of those men and women from the Magdalen Islands who have served their country. 23 Madelinots made the ultimate sacrifice of their lives in WW II, 9 of these from Entry Island in the Hong Kong conflict. A Memorial park was constructed between the two buildings with 23 cedar posts erected in the form of a cross to commemorate these brave souls. It also serves as a memorial to those who served in all armed conflicts as well as peacekeeping operations.

At the present C.A.M.I. does not charge an entrance fee to their museums, but donations are greatly appreciated. The donations are an important part of the support that the museum receives. Reprints of any of the photographs or photocopies of the documents displayed in C.A.M.I.'s possession can be acquired for a small fee.
