Industry and Research
The
Seal Interpretive Centre (S.I.C.), is like a pair of binoculars
focused on the Magdalen Islands so you can see for yourself about
all the local efforts that highlight the seals. Restaurants,
artisans and ecological tourism have distinguished themselves
in a remarkable way. Come to the S.I.C. to witness firsthand
how local interventionists, namely the Chateau Madelinot, the
Maree Haute, Ody'C Boutique and the Bouscueil workshop have been
recognised for their innovative seal products.
Discover
what's different between yesterday and today in the local seal
industry compared to that of Newfoundland! An entire activity
sector is available to be discovered along with a variety of
possibilities for the future in the provincial, Canadian, Asian
and other markets. Do you have any idea what can be done with
seal meat and oil? Come find out at the S.I.C.!
As
well, at the Centre you'll learn how biologists from Fisheries
and Oceans Canada, along with hunters, work together in a combined
effort to manage the seal herd population resource. What methods
are available to exploit this resource long term?
Take
a few minutes, young and old alike, to be the biologist examining
a seal tooth under a magnifying glass, tracking herd movement
by examining aerial photographs and trying other instruments
used to mark large mammals. What will the tooth tell you? Come
find out in Grande-Entree, at the Seal Interpretive Centre!
