  • A sequel to How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has been announced.
  • Kate Hudson is set to star.
  • Is Matthew McConaughey coming back?
  • A wave of nostalgia.
  • Where are McGonaughey and Hudson now?

More than 20 years after winning over audiences with its blend of romance and comedy, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days may soon get a sequel.

Paramount is currently developing a new film inspired by the cult romantic comedy, with Kate Hudson directly involved in the project. The actress, who played Andie Anderson in the original film, will also serve as a producer this time through her production company, Shiny Penny.

However, the project is still in its very early stages. Several key elements remain to be determined, including the screenplay, the full cast, and certain key positions on the creative team. Paramount is reportedly still searching for a screenwriter capable of setting the right direction for this new story.

The goal, however, remains particularly appealing to fans: the studio and producers hope to reunite Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, who formed the memorable duo of Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry in the original film. Their return will depend, however, on the approach chosen for the screenplay.

Hudson will produce the film alongside Stacey Sher, a seasoned producer behind several major films, including Pulp Fiction, Gattaca, Erin Brockovich, Vanilla Sky, and Django Unchained.

An Inevitable Project

In Hollywood, looking to the past has become one of the most popular formulas of the moment. The announced return of How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days thus joins a long line of productions that are reviving the hits that defined an entire generation.

This year, The Devil Wears Prada 2, Scary Movie, and Toy Story 5 have notably capitalized on this craze by drawing massive audiences. Before them, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, I Know What You Did Last Summer, Freakier Friday, Twisters, Gladiator II, and Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F had already rekindled many memories.

And this fascination with old franchises is far from over. Practical Magic 2 and Focker-In-Law are coming soon to the big screen, while Shrek 5 and Greta Gerwig’s new adaptation of The Chronicles of Narnia are scheduled for 2027.

One thing is certain: the studios have realized that nostalgia can still fill theaters.

A Cult Classic

Released in 2003, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days has established itself over the years as one of the iconic romantic comedies of its generation. Driven by the chemistry between Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey, the film struck a particularly effective balance between humor, seduction, and romance.

It was an immediate box-office success. With a reported production budget of approximately $50 million, the film grossed nearly $180 million worldwide, confirming its immense popularity with audiences. More than two decades after its release, the story of Andie Anderson and Benjamin Barry remains deeply associated with the golden age of romantic comedies in the early 2000s.

Regularly rediscovered by new generations, the film retains its status today as a true must-see of the genre.

What Are Hudson and McConaughey Up to Now?

Kate Hudson and Matthew McConaughey have come a long way since their memorable collaboration. Hudson recently shone in Song Sung Blue, released in 2025, a performance that earned her a second Oscar nomination following the one she received for her standout role as Penny Lane in Almost Famous.

She also stars in the Netflix sports series Running Point. Her involvement as a producer on How to Lose a Guy 2 clearly hints at a possible return to acting.

For his part, McConaughey deliberately steered clear of romantic comedies in the 2010s to focus on films like Mud, Interstellar, and Dallas Buyers Club, for which he won the Oscar for Best Actor in 2014.

After six years away from the big screen, he recently made his return with The Rivals of Amziah King.

For now, several pieces of the puzzle remain to be put together, but How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days still holds a very special place in the hearts of audiences.

With Hudson involved behind the scenes and the door open for McConaughey’s return, this sequel could become one of the most anticipated nostalgic events.
